YOU are always enough

Twitter is amazing.

No, really. It is.

So many posts have been shared over the past few days about the new year - #oneword and #my3words. They have been heartfelt and simply awesome. Energy and motivation is high, and it's easy to get caught up in the enthusiasm as we start 2018.

But what happens as the days turn into weeks and the weeks turn into months? Will our motivation still be as strong?

I posted this to my Facebook page as a reminder to myself as much as for anyone else. (The image is from THIS blog post.) Social media IS awesome. At the same time, it can become intimidating. We read the highlights of another person's life and think that "they have it all together." We start comparing. We question our abilities. We keep comparing.

What we have to remember is that each of us has our own journey. Your beginning could be someone else's middle. Also, since you are on your own unique journey, where you end up may be different from where someone else ends up.

Theodore Roosevelt said, "Comparison is the thief of joy." As you go through the year, avoid comparing yourself to what you read on social media. When we start comparing ourselves to others, we get on a never-ending rollercoaster.  Allow others to inspire you on your journey to greatness.

If you find that you are comparing more than being inspired...

Refocus on your goals.
Recommit to the process.
Resist the distraction.

Embrace your uniqueness, and strive to be the best YOU you can be. Remember, YOU are always enough.

    1. Thank you for taking the time to comment, Tamara. We do shine in our own ways, not better or worse than another's light. We need to step into our own and enjoy it.
      Best,

  2. What s timely post. Everyone IS caught up in inspiration. Your post also reminds me to remember how our students must feel...comparing themselves to their classmates. That can be daunting. Thanks for sharing!

    1. You have such an interesting story, Hal, unlike no other person's story. Keep shining your light for others - yours won't dim because of it. Keep inspiring!

  5. Jennifer, Your post spoke volumes to me. It is extremely difficult to control how social media influences us and how we look at ourselves. Thanks for encouraging all of us to be who we are. I’m so glad I took the time to read this! Thanks again!

    1. Hi, Carol. We all need reminding that social media usually showcases the highlights from someone else's life. Let's use those highlights to inspire, not backfire. Keep doing YOU! You're always enough.
